Haven't watched the video, but did look over the list, which was odd, even allowing that it was chosen by several different people. Anything by Daniel "Ishmael" Quinn is suspect to me. Way of the Peaceful Warrior also is, in my memory, mostly hippie tripe. (And I'm a bit of a hippie myself, in some ways.)
The emphasis on nonfiction over fiction (even counting the woo-woo stuff as non) seems a mistake if they're encouraging people to read more as the title implies, but there may be reasoning behind that in the video when I watch it. I would push people to read things they enjoy first, before suggesting heavier fare.
His first book won a one-of-a-kind Ted Turner award for environmental bushwah, and was about a smart gorilla teaching the narrator Very Important Lessons about living in harmony with the vibes of the universe and stuff. So he was the Richard Bach of the '90s, with less talent, basically. Vapid, empty philosophizing that pandered to the Thing Of The Moment, and got a lot of money out of it.
Even if I stipulate all that you say, what has that to do with Daniel Quinn's Ishmael winning the one and only Turner Prize in the 1990s, or how vapid and dishonest the book was?

Ted Turner just died, and Paramount bought out WB that owns CNN. Paramount is owned by conservatives.

Ted Turner was a hustler who called everyone he disagreed with Hitler. The Turner Prize is political and rigged.
AFAIK, there was only one prize given, and you are correct on it being political and rigged.
I've decided to read books again. Starting as soon as I've fully exhausted posting to online forums.
